Diabetes - Causes and Treatment

Diabetes is a condition which effects people of all ages and occurs when blood sugar level (Glucose) is too high. It develops when the Pancreas in the body doesn't make enough insulin or any at all, or when body isn't responding to the effects of insulin properly. Most forms of diabetes are chronic (lifelong) and all forms are manageable with medications and/or lifestyle changes. Four types of Diabetes are -

Type 1 - Autoimmune disease whete body destroys insulin-producing cells in the Pancreas. There is no cure for but can be managed by consistent monitoring and treatment.

Type 2 - Body doesn't produce enough insulin or the body's cells don't respond properly. Can be managed oe reversed with healthy lifestyle choices with Doctor's advise.

Type 3 - Gestational which can develop during pregnancy, usually resolves after pregnancy but with a high risk of developing type 2 diabetes later in the life.

Type 4 -  Prediabetes - a stage before type 2 diabetes. It also referred to as insulin resistent diabetes in older adults.

Glucose which comes from Carbohydrates in food and drinks is body's source to energy which is carried by blood to body's cells  to use for energy/ Pancreas plays main role in regulating blood glucose levels through the production of  Insulin. It is located in the upper abdomen behind the stomach and is about the size of hand. Shaped like a pear and is surrounded by liver, spleen and small intestine. After foods mix with stomach acid, they move to duodenum, where they mix with bile from the galbladder and digestive juices from Pancreas. The enzymes secreted by exocrine gland in the Pancreas help break down carbohydrates, fats, acids and proteins and travel down the pancreatic duct into the bile duct in inactive form.

Following steps are to be taken in order to clean pancreas and make it healthy -

1 Eat healthy low - fat diet with lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grain and lean protein. Avoid      sugar - rich food,

2. Drink plenty of water

3. Exercise regularly for at least 30 minute a day.

4. Taking small but frequent meals.

5. Taking low animal fat.

6. Avoid smoking and alcohol.

7. Taking lentils, clear soups, almond milk, lean meats.

8, Get Pancreas checked up regularly.

Diabetes is like having a love-hate relationship with sugar where sugar loves a bit too much. In diabetes, Insulin is a bouncer. It either is like on a break (Type 1) or is a bit too lenient  and lets everyone in (Type 2). It's a world where 'sugar rush' isn't an exciting adventure but a real health concern. Daily dance with glucose levels and insulin shots might seem horrible but doesn't mean there's no room for joke. They remind us that even when life gives you lemons, you can make a sugar free lemonade and laugh about the whole process.

Just live your life and think that blood sugar is going to be better next time. If it gets bad next time, call Doctor to to help, BUT Never, Never, Ever worry too much about it and live your life.
