Understanding Peripheral Neuropathy

Peripheral Neuropathy refers to an umbrella term which results when nerves carry to and from the Brain and Spinal cord from and to the rest of the body are damaged or diseased. The peripheral nerves make up an intricate network which connects brain and spinal cord to the muscles, skin and internal organs.  The major factors that cause  Peripheral neuropathy  symptoms include -  1. Diabetes 2. Vitamin deficiency and poor nutrition. 3. Alcoholism 4. Hereditary and acquired neuropathies from external factors like illness, environment, trauma, accident. 5. Bone marrow disorders. 6. Kidney or thyroid disease. 7. Auto immune diseases. 8. Cancer and Chemotherapy. Some of the major symptoms are - Numbness, Heaviness,Pain, tightening, Blood pressure, Constipation, Excessive sweating. In order to manage peripheral neuropathy, care of feet is a must especially when patient is diabetic. Regular exercise such as walking three times a week can reduce neuropathy pain.
