Delhi Hospital or Business Shop playing with life

 Lot of drum beating has been heard of about the working of the hospital in Delhi towards public welfare, but the ground report is absolutely ridiculous. I have lost my wife due to the lax way of handling her surgery by the so- called Doctors of the hospital recently.My wife was admitted in the hospital on 6th September for removal of gall bladder stone which was of a two days’ job. The selection of the hospital was based on the fact that my wife had got the heart valves implant done last yeari in the  same hospital  which was done quite satisfactory from Fortis Escorts hospital, New Delhi. After this heart surgery, she was advised to take blood thinners. But before the gall bladder surgery, she was told to stop taking thinners for 5 days. 

On the day of surgery, while she was being taken inside the operation theatre, Dr. Verma  told me for the first time that this is a high risk surgery and actually advised me to go for it. They made me sign the consent for it. Doctors gave her general anesthesia and told me that she will be now taken to ICU post surgery. In my opinion, the doctor forgot to start blood thinner which resulted into a brain stroke. MRI was done and Doctor told that it will be settled by medicines. They also told me that she has lung infection. To this date, I don’t know where this infection came from. Next day I was told that her heart condition is not clear and the horrible episode of my life started. Putting her on ventilator for different time slots, medical tests and then saying that more infection has come in the body of my wife whereas she was confined to ICU for more than 35 days. 

It was never possible without the infection which started in the hospital itself. Dr Verma who was the main incharge (main culprit) was never serious of the treatment and passed vague remarks about the condition of my wife. Since he is running his own clinic outside the hospital, he didn’t gave proper attention to the patient. No system exists in the hospital to check the performance of doctors. The patient is left to the mercy of junior doctors. Then came new directive that my wife kidney is failing. They wanted to do dialysis now and told me that once the process starts she will get a heart attack. I refused since her BP was running at 85 and that too on ventilator support. Then came the last day and when junior doctor was to go off duty, he switched off the ventilator saying that my wife’s blood has become too acidic so they can’t help anymore. And then the end came.        

 It is very clear that their plans were to make her stay longer in ICU to earn more money as ICU charges for one reason or the other by complicating the treatment. How can a healthy person admitted for gal bladder stone removal end up with severe infection in the lungs, then in urine, then intestine, and then finally blood? And when we kept asking wherefrom the infections are coming from the hospital, they simply denied.    

I am a retired person of 72 years, can’t struggle long. I call upon the authorities to look into the matter seriously so that in future no innocent citizen is victimized like me. And to the general public to think again and again before getting treatment in FORTIS ESCORTS HOSPITAL, Sukhdev Vihar, New Delhi in order to save your family from being broken for all the future life. Will anyone look into this?   

So in short, the string of events that led to disaster for my small family- 

Walk into the hospital healthy for a routine surgery - get heart issues, lung/intenstine/Urine/Blood infections - stay in ICU for 35 days - die - bill worth INR 10.64 Lakhs

That’s what the value of my wife’s life was worth. Also it’s evident that the patients belonging to panels are considered last in terms of getting consultations, treatment but their bills are settled quickly irrespective of the fact whether they live or die - very shameful in so called reputed hospital.
