Problem Solving in Democratic Economy

In an era of sharp debate over the conditions under which democracy can develop while broadening participation and building community, understanding and building civic capacity is crucial for strengthening governance and changing the state of the world in the process. More than managing a contest among interest groups or deliberations to reframe issues, democracy can be what the public most desires - a recipe for significant progress on important problems.

The Governance structure of the democratic state is an important feature of the politics of problem solving. The way and extent to which the party-government has room to manoeuvre are essential to finding agreement regarding the solution of public problems that are contested in the political arena.

Democracy is the political veneer of a commercial trading nation. The stronger the nations market economy, the more likely a democracy of some sort will form. The stronger the market, the wealthier the nation and fewer the material problems will be. Democracy is good in theory and there are many forms of it but it has to fit the economic environment as well the attitude of people. Economic freedom and creativity are paramount, democratic rights will follow with rising living standards. The social remedy is to allow for all kinds of free economic activity, starting with self employment, free lancing, cooperatives and firms.

Complexity, Mistrust, Division and Process paralysis can thwart leaders and others when they tackle local challenges. If some of our expectations are not met, we start blaming the idea of democracy, or start doubting, if we are living in a democracy. The first step towards thinking carefully about the outcomes of democracy is to recognize that democracy is just a form of Government. It can only create conditions for achieving something. The citizens have to take advantage of these conditions and achieve their goals.

The role of Democratic government in reducing economic disparities are -

1. Distribute wealth in a equitable manner.

2. Implement social welfare schemes for poverty reduction.

3. Provide equal opportunities in all sphere without any discrimination.

We are all humans no matter whether we are elites or ordinary people. We need to respect each other which if we fail to do,  we will end up fighting against each other. Established democracies face numerous short and long term crisis, we must re - imagine democratic institutions to be more inclusive, participatory and deliberative. Only then democracies resist the threat of increasingly rulers with iron fist and tackle global threats, including climate crisis.
