Windmills - Great Power Solution

We (self and wife) visited Belgium and stayed at Brussels last year at my Daughter's place who is working as a Sr. Research Scientist there. During our stay, we had a chance to visit  Aachen, a border city of Germany, situated at the border of Belgium and  Germany (145 Kms.) away from Brussels - A very nice place for Tourists and Shopping.

On the way, I saw a very good number of Windmills revolving around in the open fields. I was told about the usage of windmills which were admirable. A view of the following will be better able to understand the working, use and benefits of Windmills

Wind turbines can turn the power of wind into electricity which we use to power our homes and businesses. They can be standalone, supplying just one or a very small number of homes or businesses, or they can be clustered to form part of a wind farm. A wind turbine uses the power of wind to create electricity.

Each turbine consists of a set of blades, a box beside them called nacelle and a shaft. The wind, just a gentle breeze makes the blades spin creating Kinetic energy. The blades rotating in this way, then make the shaft in the nacelle turn and the generator in the nacelle converts the Kinetic energy into electrical energy.

To connect it to National Grid, the electrical energy is passed through a transformer on the site that increases the voltage to that used by the National Grid transmission network, ready to then be passed on in homes and businesses. Alternatively, a wind farm or a single wind turbine can generate electricity that is used privately by an individual or a small set of homes and businesses.

Wind turbines can operate from very light to very strong wind speeds. They generate around 80% of the time, but not always at full capacity. In really high winds, they shut down to prevent damage. Wind turbines may reduce the amount of electricity generation from fossil fuels, thereby resulting in lower total air pollution and carbon dioxide emissions. It does not contaminate, is inexhaustible, and reduces in the origin of greenhouse gases that cause global warming.

Wind power technologies are popularly known as generator of electricity generation. Besides, they are also popular for grinding grain for food production, to pump water, cut woods at sawmills. Besides, it does create a main source of good job prospects.

This technique should be taken up at a rather more speed to attain self sufficiency in electricity generation  to upgrade the living standards in Urban and Rural areas and avail the above benefits in the time to come. It can also be a deterrent to waterflows during flood times since water channels can be made to cool the generators, at times.
