Virus - Corona Virus - Causes, Symptoms
Virus is a microscopic parasite which can infect living organisms and cause disease. It can make copies of itself inside another organisms cells. It consists of Nucleic acid plus a protein coat. They are much smaller than Bacteria. It can infect all types of life forms, from animals and plants to micro organisms including bacteria and archaea.
Spike proteins are what Coronavirus use to bind to the membrane of human cells that they infect.
The binding process is activated by certain cell enzymes. SARS-2 (a serious respiratory illness that
is caused by a Coronavirus and is characterized by fever, headache body aches, dry cough, hypoxia and usually Pneumonia) by has a specific structure which allows it to bind at least ten times more tightly than the corresponding spike protein to their common hose cell receptor. Partly, this is due to the fact that the spike protein contain a site that recognizes and becomes activated by enzyme called Furin.
Furin is a host cell enzyme in various human organs such as Liver, Lungs and small intestines. The fact hat this enzyme resides in all human tissues means that the virus can potentially attack several organs at once.
Coronavirus - There are four stages of Coronavirus spread -
1) Stage 1 - Imported cases - These are who have traveled to virus-hit countries and have come back
to India.
2) Stage 2 - Local Transmission - Cases who have come in contact with patients having travel
history.
3) Stage 3- Community transmission - When a patient not exposed to any infected person or those
who has traveled to any of the affected countries tests positive. Large areas gets
effected when community transmission takes place.
4) Stage 4 - Epidemic - Last and worst stage where the disease take the shape of an epidemic with
no clear end point like it did in China.
India is presently passing through the second stage and has around 30 days window to halt the beginning of community transmission of the spread. Coronavirus is a virus found in animals and rarely can be transmitted to Humans and then spread person to person. Ir can be spread through contact with certain body fluids such as Droplets in a cough. It might also be caused by touching something an infected person has touched and then touching your hand to your mouth, nose or eyes.
In the race to find drugs to treat the Coronavirus pandemic, one potential treatment has been under the radar despite promising early results. The drug is Chloroquine, a widely prescribed malaria pill
that was first approved in U.S in 1949. Early Lab research and anecdotal reports from using the drug in patients with COVID -19 have shown encouraging signs that it may work to fight with this virus.
