World's Shortest Flights

There are various short flights in the world in order to save travel time for people. A few of them
are -

Shortest commercial flight is a 1.7 miles route between two Scottish islands. The flight between Westray and Papa Westray near the mainland of Orkney lasts just 57 seconds and it costs $51 (Return) or 45 pounds for a "Sightseer fare". It is used by local Islanders, Teachers, Doctors, Police officers and even by local banker. The route from airline Loganair, only major UK airline owned
and headquartered in Scotland. Privately owned Logan Air was founded in 1962 and has 30 aircraft in its fleet.

The Orkney Inter -Isles air service connects the Orkney mainland with six outer islands Eday, North
Ronaldsay, Papa westray, Sanday, Stronsay and Westray - and the airline saw its millionth passenger
in October last. It is an essential life-line service for the people of Orkey, connecting the individual
islands via a convenient air link.     

The flight are serviced by two, Eight Seater Britten - Norman Islanders and while the flight takes an average of one and a half minutes - making it the world's shortest scheduled route in the world - the quickest time is 57 seconds in the air " in a favorable wind". The route is about the same length as
the runway of Edinburgh Airport uses 10 Kg. of fuel worth about 15 Pounds. The airline has been running the route since 1967, have celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2017.

In India, the shortest flights are quite much longer.actually. For example, distance of 150 Kms. between Mumbai and Poona takes about 35 minutes to cover.

The route between Zanzibar and Dar-es-Salaam in Tanzania takes a journey of 20 minutes which is carried out three times a day by Zan Air.

St. Gallen, Switzerland to Friedrichshafen, Germany -Eight minutes by Austrian Airline people's Viennaline - A distance of 13 miles costing 39 Euros. Drive between two cities takes about a hour due to mountains and lakes in between.

Toronto to Niagra Falls - 12 minutes by Great Toronto Airways twice a day costing 159 Canadian Dollars.

Taitung to Green Island, Taiwan - 15 minutes- Daily air flight saving about one hour as compared to 23 miles Boat ride, which is which is important when one consider that the island is best seen on a day trip.

Kinshasa to Brazaville (Congo) - 17 minutes- Ethiopian Airlines flight takes 17 minutes journey operated by Jet Boeing 787 to cover a distance of 80 miles.
