Digital Literacy And Its Distractions

Love it or hate it, we live in Digital age and there is no going back. Today Tsunami of Digital distractions can pose challenges to the Neural networking that regulate attention.

Digital literacy is the ability to find, evaluate, utilize, share and create content and design nuanced communication across fluid digital forms. Managing Digital distractions is a learning skill in itself,
so by banning personal devices, the learners will be deprived of the opportunity to develop this skill.
In less than three decades, computer technology has moved from being in the room (Desktop) to being anywhere we like (Laptop) and now computers have shrunk to fit in a pocket, to be always in our hands (Smartphones). This has ushered in a culture of nonstop use that is compulsive and , quite simply distracting. Our connectedness is now so that as per one study- we pick up our devices every 12 minutes which is roughly 80 times during one day's working hours.

Following steps to gauge the extent of Digital distraction to combat the problem, are the only answer to unease around the embedded reliance on technology is recommended:-
1) Get distance - The closer one keeps the smartphones, more tempting it is to use it. The science
behind Stimulus control reveals that a repeated response to a stimulus, such as checking your
   phone, only reinforces the behavior.
2) Empower employees to block out focus time - To be their own for most productive sales and even
smarter By actively cultivating both mental and physical spaces within the work place, employers
can reduce distraction and long-term engagement.
3) Create quiet space for mental recharging - About 90% of people believe changing their work
environment throughout the day gives them positive boost.
4) Create tech boundaries - It can reduce distraction and make sure that one can fully engage in all
other areas of life. Start by keeping devices out of bedroom. People go to bed reading Tablet.
Build a habit of using devices only at certain timings and in certain places.
5) Realize what's happening - Knowledge is power when it comes to managing digital distractions.
Multitasking with technology can boost anxiety levels but can harm productivity and
    performance.
6) Give yourself alternatives - Such as to give a call instead of time spent on texting message.
7) Use Focusme Application - It's primary goal is to help in navigating digital distractions. One
can block time-wasting programs on Desktop for as long as work is done by the individual.
At the end of the day, 'Focusme' can help to stay task when busy on with other Digital world
     functions.
