Artificial Intelligence - Functions
Further to submission in my previous note on the subject, given below is brief of what can be achieved as also taken care of by use of Artificial Intelligence systems -
1) Chances of error is almost nil and greater precision and accuracy is achieved.
2) Fraud detection is possible in Smart cards-based systems and is employed in Banks and
financial institutions & manage records. Lacking emotional side, Robots can think logically
and take right decisions.without associating with the mood which effects Humans efficiency.
3) Can be used to explore Space. They are machines and have the ability to adapt in a manner
that Planetary atmosphere do not effect physical state and functioning.
4) Used to dig for Fuels & other mining purposes.They can be harnessed to explore depths
of oceans and can be used in overcoming the limitations that humans have. They can do
laborious tasks owing to intelligent programming in them & can shoulder responsibilities
and manage themselves. Can do repetitive and time consuming tasks efficiently.
5) Organisations use them as Digital Assistants who interacts with users thus saving need of
human resources.
6) While working in Medical fields, Algorithms can help Doctors assess patients & their health
risks. It can help to know side effects of various medicines. It can be used for Brain simulation
and prove useful in diagnosis and treatment of Neuro problems.
In Radiosurgery, it can help achieve precision in the radiation given to tumors thus reducing
damages to surrounding tissues.
7) Machines do not require any sleep or get tired of as humans do sometimes while carrying out
their jobs.
On the other side, following should also be taken note of -
1) Cost factor on repairs and maintenance may be high in the light of its use. Programs need
to be upgraded to suit changing requirements. In case of breakdown, cost may be very high.
Procedure to restore lost Codes and Data may be costly and time consuming.
2) Question arises in mind is that will it be right to install intelligence in machines which is a
God given gift to humans?
3) Machines may be able to store data and act as programmed whereas human mind can make
diversions as per situation demands which machines cannot.
4) Ideas working with dedication and a sense of belonging have no existence in Artificial
Intelligence.
5) If robots need to replace humans, what about unemployment?
6) Fear of machines going into wrong hands.
It should, therefore, be understood that the benefits and risks should be properly weighed before
applying it for human convenience.
