Prevention is better than cure - A myth now

The phrase - 'Prevention is better than cure' attributed to the Dutch Philosopher Erasmus (around 1500 AD) is a fundamental principle of modern health care strategies. This phrase was made at the time when probably treatment was based on experiences and treatment available at that time. Lot of Articles can be found to say that prevention is better than cure which has become a myth at present. What will happen to the patient, in case even after taking prevention, problem remains? Patient has to be taken up for with proper care.  In the present day scenario, it has become a myth. Patients go for treatment to hospitals only after they consider it necessary since all the preventive measures followed does not give desired results. They go there with the confidence that they will get proper care and, of course, treatment. In medicine, every disease is not curable but in most cases, good care is more effective. For the patients, 'care' is at least as important as 'cure...

Trading in shares/stocks

Post retirement ? One need to generate enough income to maintain lifestyle without exposing own assets to much risk. There are few ways by which retirees can earn like saving accounts, pension plans, social security payments etc. I am discussing following option which, in my view among others, can also be a better option, if considered seriously.  The idea of trading goods takes us back to earlier civilizations when businesses combine their funds to take ships across to other countries. During the middle ages, merchants assembled in the middle of town or coffee shops (in London) to exchange and trade goods from countries worldwide. Since these merchants were from different countries, need arose to establish a money exchange where trading transactions were to be managed fair. This was also required for people who needed to borrow funds and where wealthy merchants lend their money at high rates.  These merchants would then sell bonds backed by these loans and pay interest to peo...

Learning to surviving grief and live again

Most of us don't know what grief is like until we lose someone we love, and no two experiences of loss are exactly the same. The closeness of the person who dies, the time in her life and in ours when death comes, all make a difference in the way we grieve and the time we take to heal. Common denominator to grief for us all, is pain. Trying to avoid the painful emotions of grief leads to greater problems - illness or serious chronic distress. Avoiding the painful feeling of grief leaves us stuck psychologically where we are, unable to change and grow.  When we lose life partner, we experience social isolation because we see ourselves as different from others and different from ourselves before the death occurred. Our role in the community and close friends can change drastically. Letting go of somebody you love is not easy. The insecurity one experiences following a major loss is frightening and devastating.  Sudden death presents more symptoms of shock and consequent so many ...

Hospital where patient not treated well are made to die

It is going to happen and not in late future - a menace which is taking shape in the hospital. I am neither a critic nor  author and does not believe in blame game, but do have the right to explain my finding to share with facts to public and my well wishers. The loss to my life is so grave and caused deep injury to me and am still in trauma and sadness which is to continue as long as live.   By this communication, request to Medical Council of India to look into this matter seriously and save the society from the effect of this menace taking shape slowly. On the one hand, Govt. is serious in saving people's lives from COVID and spending huge sums, and on the other, the hospital striving to increase their earnings by such nuisance by executing wrong practices and playing with the lives of the patients. Escorts Fortis hospital, Sukhdev Vihar, New Delhi, as I understand the place where the origin of this menace is taking shape and put into practice in a very sophisticated cl...

Height of medical negligence in Fortis Escorts hospital

It is a fact that this hospital is a black spot in the history of hospitals of India.  The doctor here are negligent to provide proper treatment to the patient and the hospital does not have any system of checking their working. A CBI inquiry is a much needed action to be taken up to prevent misuse of Govt. funds and subsidies showered upon the hospital. The hospital is full of infection spread in its ICU but the doctor blame it on the patient without considering that the patient was healthy at the time of admission. The head of the hospital Dr Ashok Seth don’t bother to check upon the working of such doctors.     The live example is of Dr Sanjay Verma  who carried out the surgery of removal of stone in the gall bladder of my wife. He kept her in ICU for 35 days for different reasons. She had brain stroke, lungs infection, put on ventilator till her death. A complete disaster of medical system needs inquiry in the case. Government should have a forensic audit o...

Doctor use ICU as money generating machine

It has been my recent experience which has caused me a terrible loss of my life since I made a blunder mistake of relying upon a Doctor in Fortis Escorts Hospital in New Delhi. I lost my wife due to the foolishness of the Doctor Verma who kept her in ICU for 35 days by giving different reasons at different times. She was admitted in the hospital for removal of gallbladder stone (usually required a stay for 3-4 days). I could see my wife only during 11.00 to 11.30 in the morning and 6.00 pm to 6.30 in the evening. Whether they gave the proper treatment or not I am not sure of. Every time I was told of a problem and asked to sign the form for a test since they were to add its cost to the bill. Completely unaware of the treatment which they were supposed to give. She was made to face brain stroke, infection in the lungs, then was put on ventilator, and then told me that infection has spread throughout the body. They kept giving her antibiotics (as they said). None of these so called ...

Delhi Hospital or Business Shop playing with life

Lot of drum beating has been heard of about the working of the hospital in Delhi towards public welfare, but the ground report is absolutely ridiculous. I have lost my wife due to the lax way of handling her surgery by the so- called Doctors of the hospital recently. My wife was admitted in the hospital on 6th September for removal of gall bladder stone which was of a two days’ job. The selection of the hospital was based on the fact that my wife had got the heart valves implant done last yeari in the  same hospital  which was done quite satisfactory from Fortis Escorts hospital, New Delhi. After this heart surgery, she was advised to take blood thinners. But before the gall bladder surgery, she was told to stop taking thinners for 5 days.  On the day of surgery, while she was being taken inside the operation theatre, Dr. Verma  told me for the first time that this is a high risk surgery and actually advised me to go for it. They made me sign the consent for it....

Usage of AI in monetization of Data

The economic value of data for companies is challenging to conceptualize and measure directly. Companies can monetize by improving customer experiences, reducing costs, finding new customers and so much more from the data that is produced directly or indirectly using big data analytics and AI. Many B2B  businesses understand that data monetization using AI and data analytics can create higher returns on investment and streamlined operations.    The potential for data to deliver value for many parts of the business is enormous. For Data monetization, following five rules are necessary to follow: 1. Understand the role and value of Data in business - Good data management is about making sure you have the proper data to support your business and improve performance. Often companies fail to accurately value their data because it is not strictly accounted for as an asset even though it has real worth in external markets. 2. Get Data house in order - Before thinking about monet...

Durand line and Afghan conflict

Durand line (a 2640 Kms. border ) was originally established in 1893 as the international border between British India and the Emirate of Afghanistan by Sir Henry Mortimer Durand, a British diplomat of Indian Civil Service, and Abdur Rahman Khan, the Afghan Emir, to fix the limit of their respective spheres of influence and improve diplomatic relations. He was sent to secure control of strategic Khyber pass, negotiate agreement to delineate the border between Afghanistan and British India.      The new border, dubbed the Durand line, divided the Pashtun tribal lands into two. Half of the Pashtun tribal region became part of British India, and the other half remained as part of Afghanistan. Afghanistan governs all the Pashtuns on one side of Durand line, while Pakistan governs all the Pashtuns on the other. Officials who drew the Durand line didn't consider the ethnic groups who lived in the region, today there are many battles along the border between Afghanistan and Paki...

The Secret of Creativity

Creativity is inventing, experimenting, growing, taking risks, breaking rules, making mistakes and having fun. Without creativity, there would be no progress, and we would be repeating the same patterns forever.     The secret of creativity thinking is to start with good problems. Then you need to turn those problems into thought provoking challenges. After that, great ideas will also invent themselves.  Almost every creative idea is a potential solution to the problem. The secret of creativity is knowing how to hide your sources.  Creativity is no longer seen as what artists and musicians process.  It's a crucial skill for professionals in all fields. Boosting the creative thinking can help, by shifting perspective on what researchers know, which can ultimately point to novel problems to focus on. But first, researchers need to acknowledge their creative potential and engage in activities that can help them fulfill their potential.  While creativity i...

Implementation and Evaluation of Public Policy

Policy implementation is of keen importance to the success of government. Even if the political system is fair, goals are noble and organizational structure is strong, no policy can succeed if the implementation part is not up to the mark. The implementation of government policies and programs is now playing a vital role in the development strategy. Measured by economic growth or attainment of human development objectives, India remains not only an underdeveloped country but one which is regarded as under-performer, which could do better.         Announcements of policy decisions, be it for industry or otherwise, cannot be allowed to go up in thin air after the political purpose is served, and must be notified by the governments within a reasonable time frame. Representations by public authorities need to be held scrupulous standards since citizens continue to live their lives based on the trust they repose in the state. The generation of a business-friendly cli...

Role of Opposition in Democracy

A parliament is by its nature not a monolithic and homogeneous institution, but a representative assembly, where the basic idea is that different ideas and interests should be represented, and where there is differences of opinion, and always a distinction between the majority and one or more opposing minorities. In modern Parliaments this is organised along political party lines, with the basic distinction running between the governing party (or parties) and the opposition parties that are represented in parliament. 'Freedom dies when criticism ends' the quote sufficiently highlights the role of criticism in a democratic setup to sustain liberty in a democracy. A democracy without opposition is dangerous for the society as a whole thus attributes a significant role for effective and efficient functioning in any democracy. There is no uniform pattern of opposition that can be seen in democracies worldwide which leads to difference in opposition behavior across the world. ...

Mature political discussions needed

Over the past several years, political talk has become extremely heated. There was a time when polite people weren't supposed to discuss in social settings, politics and religion, but today, that seems a tad too strict. In almost every discussions on media now a days, discussions/arguments change pace to " Head I win and Tail you lose" approach among the delegates from different political circuits with the host playing role of filling the gaps.          We live in an age in which it's very difficult to avoid conversations about politics, because nearly everything has become political. A difference in politics can cause arguments that ends friendships, marriages, even business relationships. I'm not so naive as to believe that conversations can solve the world's problems, but I can say with confidence that not having those conversations will make those problems significantly worse. So, we must begin to talk and have conversations to eventually reach a compromis...

Money saved is money earned

This famous idiom came from the popular Benjamin Franklin's book Poor Richard's Almanac in December 1732. The original meaning signifies importance of saving money which later proves to be beneficial to the earner. For as long as money has existed, people have had thoughts and opinions about it. Money is the fuel that powers the material life on this planet. The reason for the concept is described below: 1. Wise to save money by keeping aside a proportion of the earnings that indicates       earning money. 2.  Formulates the financial benefits of savings and earnings. 3.  Reflects a concept of budgeting money which economically balances income             and savings. 4.  Saving money from certain earning gradually can accumulate to a good                    amount thus equalizing a monthly earning. 5.  Saved money can be a retirement benefit which is an earning a...

You don't know that you don't know

Artificial intelligence experts are now teaching computers to come up with better questions, because humans aren't as good as we think at identifying the gaps in our knowledge. In other words, you don't know what you don't know. In fact, you will never know what you don't know. There will always be gaps in your knowledge, places where you are completely clueless as to your ignorance.  I believe that learning is stronger than knowledge, that perception is more potent than reality, that vision is more powerful than reality. I see learning taking place at three separate levels -  - What we know what we know.  - What we know what we don't know. - What we don't know we don't know. These three levels of learning, in our leadership fit together to create knowledge, perception and vision. As leaders, we struggle with the same challenges, doubts, frustrations and setbacks as everyone else. But it's important that we seek out opportunities and circumstances that g...

Future of Democracy in Post Pandemic Era

Democracy, understood as electoral democracy based on representation, was not at its strongest when the Covid-19 pandemic hit. It is widely held that during crisis people "rally round the flag", that is, elected leaders gain more popular support than they had under normal circumstances. Two explanations offered for this situation are - people gather around the nation's front figures as they look for security to face the threat. Second, the relative silence of political opposition and reduced partisan animosity creates a fundamental change in the information landscape, leading the public to follow the example. The year 2020 will forever be the year of Coronavirus, a cataclysmic event in slow motion that has disrupted people's lives and disseminated a sense of uncertainty and vulnerability only to times of war. The Covid -19 pandemic has called into question many aspects of electoral and political life beyond the act of voting. Campaigns and conventions have been forced...

Opportunity Knocks Once For All

When opportunity knocks a chance of success occurs. We must admit that in the middle of every difficulty lies an opportunity.Success is sure to the sincere seeker.   There is a difference between successful people and others. Successful people make the most of every opportunity that comes their way and create opportunities where there are none. Others meanwhile kept waiting for next opportunity and make a mess of it when it comes. Opportunities are not magic wands, one wave of which will leapfrog us to the pinnacle of success. They are actually chances that we create for ourselves after years and years of hard work and perseverance.  Opportunities are a culmination of sacrifices that we make to achieve our goals, possibilities we create for ourselves which gives us the best chance to succeed. As the saying goes "Life is not served on a silver platter", it is those small windows of opportunities, we need to keep an eye on and exploit as soon as we see an opening.  In ...

Your Karma will give you results

Karma is the entire process of cause-and-effect where our actions and intentions directly influence our future. It is the memory of our souls, which means it's often long lasting, even stemming from past lives. Indeed, the course of our current life is mostly predetermined by earlier lifetimes: what we didn't finish then, we come back to finish now. Unpleasant situations are the consequences of lingering karma, which can be always be reversed and resolved. If you want to erase the energy carried over from past lifetimes, you need to acknowledge following five past life karma first - 1. Karma has no expiration date - It is the luggage your life carries on from life to life unlike luggage at the airport which never gets lost. Without even knowing it, you may be experiencing karma that originated several lifetimes ago. But when you do dig through your karmic suitcase then you can confront your outstanding karma and lighten your energetic load. 2. Karma means no person in your life...

Leadership Comes With Great Responsibility

In a leadership role, person is pushed to become a good role model, make decisions, be fair and reliable and to have integrity. One of the most important qualities is to have commitment. Facing high pressure, complex circumstances, opportunity deadlines, too much, too little, or conflicting information is the reality of being a leader.  If you expect your team to work hard to attain success, you have to lead by setting an example. By proving your commitment to the overall goals and to your own role, you will not only earn the respect and admiration of your team, but you will also encourage same hardworking energy among your staff. Good leaders develop through a never ending process of self study, education, training and experience.                 Responsibility is the state or certainty of having an obligation to manage something or of having power over somebody. Duty is something each individual is to develop themselves, it should turn...
